Manual Lymph Drainage
Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) is a gentle massage which mimics the rhythm of the lymphatic system, employing repetitive strokes at a precise speed, rhythm, and pressure. These repetitive movements reduce the body's "fight or flight" response to stress and stimulate the body's parasympathetic reaction, allowing the body to relax and therefore, heal itself more efficiently. The lymphatic system part of the immune system and is a network of tissues and organs that help rid the body of toxins, waste and other unwanted materials. The primary function of the lymphatic system is to fight infection by transporting lymph, a fluid containing infection-fighting white blood cells, through the lymph nodes into the body. Eventually, this purified lymphatic fluid is returned to blood circulation. In the process, toxins are removed from the tissues and the increase in lymph flow helps distribute immune cells throughout the body, reducing infection and inflammation. The Lymph Drainage series entails 3-60 minute sessions spaced at ideally a week apart. |
