Manual Lymph Drainage
Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) is a gentle massage that mimics the rhythm of the lymphatic system, using repetitive strokes at a precise speed, rhythm, and pressure. These repetitive movements reduce the body's "fight or flight" response to stress and stimulate the body's parasympathetic reaction, allowing the body to relax and therefore, heal itself more efficiently.
The Lymphatic System is part of the Immune System and is a network of tissues, nodes, and organs that help rid the body of toxins and waste. The primary function of the Lymphatic System is to fight infection by transporting lymph, a fluid containing infection-fighting white blood cells, through the lymph nodes into the body. |
Eventually, this purified lymphatic fluid is returned to blood circulation. In the process, toxins are removed from the tissues and the increase in lymph flow helps distribute immune cells throughout the body, reducing infection and inflammation. The MLD series entails 3/60-minute sessions spaced ideally one to two weeks apart.
